A unique Planetarium show “ We are stardust” at Eugenides foundation

The swan song of the Honorary Director of the Eugenides Planetarium Dionysios Simopoulos was to be the last unpublished musical work of the late and world-renowned composer Vangelis Papathanasiou. On the occasion of the New Digital Planetarium’s 20th anniversary, this show looks back on its previous productions, with unreleased music by Vangelis and narrated by Dionysios Simopoulos. A tribute to Science and Art by two creators whose friendship and mutual appreciation is more than evident in this work.

From our innate “need” as intelligent beings to explore the Universe to our effort in deciphering the secrets of the stars, and from the birth of the Solar System to the emergence of life on Earth, this show is ultimately an exciting journey of discovery that leads to the following simple conclusion: “we really are all stardust, and someday we will return to the stars”.

National Gallery

Since May 2021, the National Gallery-Museum of Alexandros Soutsou has welcomed visitors to its recently refurbished building. The new building complex, with its roots in the heritage of Greek modernism, is a contemporary cultural landmark in the heart of Athens. After the long absence of the main building of the National Gallery from the cultural life of Athens due to the expansion projects, the new facility aims to spread its work through an energetic connection between the urban and the museum experience.
The new modernized building complex of the National Gallery, an open space for access and familiarization with the history of modern Greek art, is articulated in an aesthetic and functional game of built volumes and outdoor spaces. Given the protected shell of the building, its total size was doubled to 20,760 m2: bigger exhibition spaces, contemporary art storage, a 240-seat auditorium, a two-storey art library, up-to-date conservation laboratories, modern offices, new educational areas, a large impressive lobby, where, in addition to the ticket office and the cloakroom, the museum shop and the digital information lounge are located, and finally, a garden-outdoor sculpture gallery and a stylish coffee shop.

The Byzantine and Christian Museum

which is based in Athens, is one of Greece’s national museums. Its areas of competency are centered on but not limited to religious artifacts of the Early Christian, Byzantine, Medieval, post-Byzantine and later periods which it exhibits, but also acquires, receives, preserves, conserves, records, documents, researches, studies, publishes and raises awareness of.

The museum has over 25,000 artefacts in its possession. The artefacts date from between the 3rd and 20th century AD, and their provenance encompasses the entire Greek world, as well as regions in which Hellenism flourished. The size and range of the collections and value of the exhibits makes the Museum a veritable treasury of Byzantine and post-Byzantine art and culture.
