Archon George C. Rockas, Esq.

Archons of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in America

Co-Chair of the Speakers Program

George Rockas was invested as an Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in 2006. He is the Conference Planning Co-chairman of the Religious Freedom Conference that the Archons are holding on May 26-28, 2024, in Athens.  He was the Chairman of the Planning Committee for the Archon Religious Freedom Conferences in Brussels in 2010 and in Berlin in 2013.

Mr. Rockas was a member of the Archon Legal Committee for a number of years.  In that capacity he helped monitor legal issues facing the Greek Orthodox minority as well as other religious minorities in Turkey.  Over the years, he has participated in a number of religious freedom missions to the European Union and Turkey.  He currently is Co-chairman of the International Archon Engagement Committee.

Mr. Rockas received his B.A. degree from Hamilton College and his J.D. and M.B.A. from Cornell University.  He has been a lawyer for 40 years specializing in civil litigation, with an emphasis on defending lawyers in malpractice cases and defending insurers in insurance coverage disputes.  He has tried a number of cases and argued a number of appeals in state and federal courts.

Since December 2000, he has been a partner in the Boston office of Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman and Dicker LLP, a law firm with over 30 offices in the United States and an office in London.  Throughout his career, Mr. Rockas has been active in the American Bar Association (ABA), including serving as the Chairman of the ABA’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee.

He has been married to Evelyn Rockas for 40 years and has two children, Doctor Mary Rockas and James Rockas, who also is an Archon.
